Google AI Mode Adds Flight Tracking and Hotel Booking

Google said on 27 August 2026 that AI Mode in Search can now track flight prices across more than 180 countries and territories, surface points or miles rates, and begin booking hotels in U.S. English with 10 lodging and travel partners. TechCrunch and Google’s Search blog both put the same three upgrades on the page: flight alerts from 300-plus airlines and sites, rewards pricing, and a “Continue on Google” hotel checkout that uses Google Pay while the hotel or booking platform stays merchant of record.

Flight price tracking inside the AI Mode chat

Users can describe where and when they want to fly and see current options priced from more than 300 partner airlines and travel sites. If they are ready, they can build an itinerary in AI Mode and finish the ticket purchase on the airline site or preferred booking platform. If they want to wait, they can ask AI Mode to track those flight prices and confirm the route and dates; Google then emails them when prices change.

Google says flight price tracking in AI Mode is available in more than 180 countries and territories. Coverage that cites Google’s footnotes notes EEA countries and territories are excluded from that flight-tracking availability. Asia-Pacific markets that already support AI Mode should treat the 180-plus figure as the headline reach and the EEA note as the compliance carve-out.

This is Google Flights-style alerting pulled into the conversational surface, not a new airline. Tickets still settle off Google. Keep that distinction clear if you also cover Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, which is a speech product, not a travel booking rail.

Points, miles, and the first rewards partners

AI Mode can show the cost of matching flights and hotels in points or miles using partner data. Google’s launch set includes Alaska Airlines / Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and Lufthansa Group are listed for the coming weeks. Redemption still finishes on the partner site.

Google describes points and miles viewing as globally available across supported AI Mode locations and languages, with a footnote that some features will not be available to users in EEA countries and territories. For North America desks, that means AA and Alaska miles queries are the first practical demos. For Asia-Pacific desks, watch the LATAM and later Flying Blue additions rather than assuming every rewards brand is live on day one.

Hotel booking rolls out in U.S. English first

Hotel booking is the transactional leap. Users describe a trip and preferences, get a visual list with reviews and comparison factors, then ask AI Mode to help complete the booking. Selecting “Continue on Google” beside an integrated partner opens room choice, cancellation details, and Google Pay checkout. Google is explicit that the hotel or booking platform is the merchant of record and handles customer service.

The initial partner list is Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts — ten names for a U.S. English rollout that Google says will fill in over the coming weeks. That is a North America-first commerce path. Asia-Pacific readers get flight tracking and rewards visibility sooner than in-AI Mode hotel checkout unless Google expands the booking geography later.

EU and EEA readers should expect the footnotes to matter: flight tracking excludes EEA in Google’s availability note, and some rewards features are also limited there. Hotel booking’s first wave is U.S. English, so European checkout is not the 27 August claim.

What this changes for travel search desks

AI Mode is moving from itinerary advice to partial agent behavior: alert me, price me in miles, and book the room. Flight purchase still exits to the airline or OTA. Hotel purchase can stay inside Google’s Continue-on-Google flow. That split is the product story. Do not write that Google is selling every flight ticket end-to-end inside AI Mode as of this announcement.

Use Google’s partner lists and the 180 / 300 / 10 counts as the hard numbers. If you already cover Google enterprise Gemini work, keep consumer AI Mode travel on a separate line from workplace agents.

The useful pin: on 27 August 2026 Google added AI Mode flight price tracking in 180-plus countries (with EEA exclusions noted), points/miles rates for an initial set of airline and hotel programs, and U.S. English hotel booking with 10 partners via Google Pay while hotels remain merchant of record.
