How to Write a Same-Day Decision Note With Two Options

Anyone staring at a stalled thread can write a same-day decision note with two options in 10 minutes: the choice, option A, option B, the pick, and by-when. Run it in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini before a warm memo trains the room to wait for another call.

A same-day decision note is a pick with a clock, not a status dump. Five lines tell one person what was decided, what was rejected, and when work starts.

This is not a three-bullet ask from a long DM. An ask is a request. This skill is a choice already made. If the thread is already hot, write the difficult email reply first, then the decision. Do not mix apology and pick. Save the five-line shape as a skill prompt you can rerun.

Write a same-day decision note before the call

1. Paste the stall. Name the choice first

Instruct ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini: "Do not draft a memo yet. Write one line: We are deciding [verb plus object] today. If I did not name a choice, write UNKNOWN and stop. No hello. No circling back."

Paste the thread, not the whole quarter. A model that invents a decision is lying on your behalf.

Banned: circling back, let's sync, thoughts?, no rush, whenever, alignment, happy to discuss.

2. Two real options, not a fake choice

Send the choice line back. Instruct: "Line two is option A, one sentence, with a fact I pasted. Line three is option B, one sentence, with a fact I pasted. Both must be doable today. If I named only one option, write UNKNOWN."

Good A: "Ship the CSV export Friday with the fields we already have." Bad A: "Keep exploring options." Exploring is not an option.

Good B: "Hold the export and add the tax column next week." Bad B: "Do nothing for now." Do nothing is a stall with a costume.

A fake B that exists only to make A look smart is a brochure.

3. One pick, and one fact that kills the other

Instruct: "Line four is the pick: we pick A or we pick B, plus one fact I pasted that kills the other. Not alignment. Line five is a by-when: weekday and date. Not EOD. Not soon. If I named no pick or no date, write UNKNOWN."

Good pick: "Pick: A, because payroll cannot run without a file on Friday." Bad: "Pick: leaning A pending alignment."

Good by-when: "By-when: Tuesday 25 Aug, 16:00 WIB." Bad: "When we have a chance."

4. Force five lines, then stop the model

Hard cap: five lines. No greeting. No sign-off.

Tell the model: "Output exactly five lines labeled Choice, Option A, Option B, Pick, By-when. No sixth line. No Happy to discuss. No let's jump on a call."

ChatGPT will add a hello. Claude will hedge the pick. Gemini will turn the date into "this week." Cut all three. If a sixth line appears, delete it.

5. One human pass as the person who has to live with it

Read the five lines as if you have to start today and did not write the novel above them.

Check three traps:

• A pick that is actually a status update. "Flagging this" is not a pick. "We ship A Friday" is.
• An option that is a feeling, or a B that exists only to lose.
• A by-when that does not exist on a calendar, or a pick that is still leaning.

Fix those in your own words. Then send the edited five back: "Replace only the words I changed. Do not re-expand."

One pass. Paste. Hit send. If a paragraph still sits above the five lines, you never decided. Stop.
