How to Prompt a Phone Mockup that Does Not Look Fake

Anyone selling an app or a case can prompt a phone mockup that does not look fake in five moves: name a real device, lock the screen as a rectangle, set scale, ban the chrome void, then composite the real UI. Do it in Midjourney, Flux, or Grok Imagine before "sleek smartphone in a hand" melts the island.

Fake is not a taste problem. Fake is geometry the model did not have to keep: wrong camera count, liquid bezels, a floating slab, a screen that is another painting.

If subject, atmosphere, and technical are still one sentence, fix that with the three-layer image prompt structure first.

Prompt a phone mockup that does not look fake

Name the device. Flatten the glass. Ground the scale. Ban the void. Composite the UI.

1. Name a real phone, not "smartphone"

Subject is a specific object.

"One iPhone 16 Pro, natural titanium, six-one size, three-camera island aligned, flat glass, thin even side walls, no extra buttons, sitting."

Or: "One Pixel 9 Pro, porcelain, camera bar, flat display."

"Latest flagship, premium titanium" is a chimera. Attach a real pack shot if you have one and keep the lock identical.

Count the cameras and buttons. If a fourth lens appears, reject.

2. Lock the screen as a rectangle, not a second scene

The display is a surface you will cover.

"Screen: a flat dark rectangle, even glass, no wallpaper scene, no generated icons, no in-screen reflection of a room that is not there."

A dim lock-screen color is fine so the glass reads as glass. Do not ask for "the app open, beautiful UI." The letters will fail.

Segment device chrome from the screen block. If they share a clause, the model will paint a tiny city into the glass.

3. Set hands, table, and scale

A phone at 40 percent of a dining table is a toy. A phone that fills the frame with no environment is a render dump.

Pick one ground:

• "Device flat on a worn oak table, phone about a hand long versus a coffee cup to the right, cup optional and counted."
• "One left hand, adult, four fingers plus thumb, no extra joints, holding the phone at 20 degrees, office window behind, no second hand unless locked."

If you do not lock finger count, you will get a horror. If you do not lock scale, you will get a slab the size of a book.

Hands and table are subjects. Treat them like the device: counted, named, frozen.

4. Ban chrome poetry and the floating void

Banned: sleek, futuristic, floating, levitating, hologram, neon edge light, "product render," infinite black void, wet chrome, lens flare on the island.

A void makes a 2021 render. Put the phone on earth: a desk, a rail, or a pocket. One surface.

Instruct: "No extra devices. No floating. If the island count changes, reject."

Do not add a "subtle glow." Glow is a new light and a new product.

5. Composite the UI. One technical pass on the plate

Generate the plate. Grade it on chrome, count, scale, and ground.

Then drop a real screenshot into the reserved rectangle. Match the corner radius. That is the mockup.

If the plate needs a revision, use the three-pass image revision loop and keep the device lock frozen. Atmosphere can change the room. Technical can add grain. Neither may invent a fourth camera.
